Tara Chestnut, Ph.D.

PRESIDENT

Tara Chestnut has dedicated her 30 year career to public service as an ecologist with the US Forest Service, National Park Service and US Geological Survey, and a wildlife biologist for state and county agencies. She has led ecological research and monitoring focused on birds, mammals and amphibians in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, and published more than 30 peer-reviewed papers in the scientific literature. Additionally, Tara is skilled in science communication and community engagement. Notable accomplishments include collaborating with artists to teach elementary school students and National Park visitors about the evolution of flight, and for the last 7 years, participating as a scientist-narrator in an online event, March Mammal Madness, that reaches hundreds of thousands community members annually. In 2015, Tara earned her PhD from Oregon State University studying wildlife diseases

Charlotte Gregson

Charlotte is a Registered Nurse at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital where she supports her patients by improving habits and behaviors around nutrition, physical health and mental well-being. She has trained employees on becoming a High Reliability Organization, taught Vision Connection, which unites employees to the mission statement and was a co-trainer for Heart to Start, a community walking program. Charlotte is also a certified personal trainer and finds it rewarding teaching group fitness classes. As a board member, she hopes to increase awareness of these rare animals and generate more funding for the research needed to ensure their survival. In her spare time, you will find Charlotte playing in the outdoors with her family and friends, working in her yard, or sharing a meal with the people she loves.

Connie Shaw

TREASURER

Connie brings 20 years of small business management from photography to farming to food manufacturing. She currently manages the finance department at Farmers Conservation Alliance, an Oregon based non-profit that works to solve water management solutions for communities across the west. Her goal as a board member is to help diversify and build additional funding avenues while assisting in the management of the required use and reporting obligations. When she has down time, you are most likely to find Connie digging in the dirt in her vegetable garden or chasing the sunrise on a dirt trail.

Caitlin Beebe

Board Member

Caitlin is a wildlife biologist with a graduate certificate in Wildlife Management and a Bachelor’s degree in wildlife research and anthropology. She has over a decade of experience in conservation science, ecological field research, and endangered species monitoring. Caitlin has worked with tribal governments, state and federal agencies, and nonprofits to support conservation initiatives through mitigation planning and environmental consulting. She has coordinated public outreach and community fundraising efforts, connecting local communities with the work of the Cascades Carnivore Project. Caitlin currently resides in Monterey, CA, and spends her time in the mountains, rivers, and exploring the coast.

Zoë Hanley

Board Member

Zoë is the Oregon Associate Director of Conservation Science for The Nature Conservancy, an international non-profit that works to protect the lands and waters on which all life depends. As a wildlife ecologist with a passion for carnivores, she spent the past decade working for federal, state and non-profits organizations to help recover imperiled species such as fishers, wolves and grizzly bears through science, policy and community engagement. Zoë holds a PhD from Washington State University in Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences and is an eco-grief facilitator for The Work That Reconnects. In her free time you’ll find her gardening, paddleboarding, or spending quality time with her husband and two step daughters at their home in Willard, WA.

John Soltys

Board Member

John manages information security risk for Seattle-based ​F​red Hutch Cancer Center. He brings 15 years of experience with policy development, risk management, and technical expertise to the Board. John has been a community scientist since 2013 when he and his kids began tracking pikas in Mount Rainier National Park. Since then, he has contributed to multiple projects including the Cascades Carnivore Project. John is an avid outdoorsman spending as much time as he can in the mountains hiking, mountaineering, snowshoeing, and fly​ fishing. The Soltys family lives on the lands of the Snoqualmie people in North Bend, Washington.

 

Teresa Hagerty

Board Member

Teresa grew up in the Pacific Northwest and established her love for the outdoors in early childhood. This deep appreciation has led to multiple summits in Mount Rainier National Park, climbing adventures in the remote corners of the North Cascades, and countless days on trails near and far. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest and is a technical program manager during work hours. Her passion for the outdoors previously evolved into founding her own outdoor adventure company, Cascade Mountain Adventures, where she led day hikes, backpacking trips, and snow camping overnights in our great Pacific Northwest to educate and encourage others. She brings experience in environmental non-profit donor engagement, outdoor events, and mission-focused communication to the Cascade Carnivore Project.
